Help! E-card virus!?

I just received an email from "americangreetingcards.com" and the subject line says something like: "You have received an e-card from a school friend"
Stupidly, I followed the link and it was on this site with a video player on it. The video player has not started, but soon after, a download window appeared. At that time, I was suspicious and clicked Cancel instead of downloading. About a second later, a large red Norton Antivirus window appeared saying something like "virus detected", then a few seconds later he said the problem had been resolved. In my experience, Norton does not do squat to protect my computer. Was it Norton pop up a part of the virus or was Norton (In fact, I installed Norton on my computer) makes clear the virus? Has this happened to someone else? I immediately ran my antivirus and Advanced Windows Care it is a tracking cookie. Please let me know what I can do to make sure I do not have the virus or how to get rid of it. Thank you

Phony e-cards that contain viruses were at epidemic levels for the last two weeks. Most of them from China (. Cn) or Hong Kong (. Hk) areas.

Your Norton did the job and he did well. He pat on the head and give him a biscuit!

To check for any malware infection, run these two online scans. Both are free and excellent at detecting and removing malware free of charge. There is no need to uninstall your current protections before using these.

1. Scan for viruses, worms, dialers, etc. and remove (free online scan, no downloaded program) with BitDefender Online Scanner
http://www.bitdefender.com/

2. Scan for trojans, adware and spyware and remove (free online scan, no downloaded program) with Ewido Online Scanner (now known as AVG Anti-Spyware). This is NOT the same as AVG Anti-Virus.
http://www.ewido.net/en/

These scans will take some time. Time is needed to clean an infected computer.

Good luck.

I suspect Norton has done its duty and protect against the virus. Viruses are not usually draw attention to themselves by spoofing messages Norton.

You can open Norton and check the quarantine for the guy.
